I miss you Mike. It's hard to believe you have been gone for nearly 8 years now. I was there at the beginning of this musical journey when we decided to play instruments and grow our hair long way back in the late 60s. You chose the drums and your parents were cool enough to allow it! I am grateful to have been the co founder of our first band which was named by my father. We came up with Fool's Gold and he suggested "Iron Pyrite". Little did we know it meant the same thing. We thought that was way better and sounded so cool as any early teen going up in the 70s would testify.

We maintained a lifelong friendship and had one heck of a time throughout the 70s and 80s! It is etched in my mind how your parents would take us skiing on the Colorado River near Bullhead and your dad would be skiing barefoot! I think he was in his 50s at the time and I could not believe his skill level. Plus your mom drove their 26' Sleekcraft boat "Blue Jean" named after her at such A high speed and your dad Chuck would give her the single to go faster! Crazy times!

I was honored and petrified at the same time when Jennie asked me to preside over your funeral and give a Eulogy. I never did that before and hope to never do it again. It was an especially difficult time for me but I hope I did you justice.

You have a beautiful granddaughter now and Jennie is doing a great job raising her. You would be proud.

Until we meet again, keep the beat in Heaven!

Your lifelong friend,

Doug Sawyer
